Waiting List Closed for Preston Allotments

Preston City Council has closed it's waiting lists for allotments, and is subdividing plots and jacking up the fees.

Running an allotment is a brilliant pastime for anyone who wants to get healthy by working hard in the open air, eating cheap fresh organic vegetables and by meeting a community of like minded people.

There is still plenty of unused land held by public sector institutions, the city and county councils, the NHS, the civil service, even the army. Why can't some of this land be turned over so that local people can start growing their own food with a zero carbon footprint?

Of course, if these institutions were to hand over such plots to locals, the potential value of the land to private developers would plummet,,,
